Searching the Kane County Court Docket
Start with Utah Courts XChange. It is the public window into district and justice court data kept in CORIS. Choose District Court, Justice Court, or both. From there, narrow to Kane County or to one specific court. Names alone bring back floods of matches. A case number or citation number still needs its court location, since neither is unique across the state. Work from the court printed on your notice, citation, or earlier filing. Brand-new matters may lag until local staff enter them. When a Kane County docket search seems off or time is tight, call the clerk. Do not conclude no case exists.
- Identify the court level and Kane filing location.
- Choose a name, case number, or citation search.
- Narrow results by case type, date, and court.
- Open the matching case history and review proceedings.
- Ask the correct clerk for a copy or certification.
Kane County XChange Search Fields
The official XChange help lays out every control a public searcher can use. You can run a wide name search or a tight case query on the same screen.

Results cap at 500. Trim a common name before any billable search runs. A wildcard helps with first names, and filters for birth date, filing date, disposition date, case type, and court pull close matches apart.
| Field | Best use | Kane caution |
|---|---|---|
| Jurisdiction | District, justice, or both | Select the court that could hear the case |
| Name | Party or company search | Add dates or case type for common names |
| Case number | Direct case lookup | Pair it with court location |
| Citation number | Traffic or low-level offense | The number is not unique statewide |
| Date range | Filing, outcome, or judgment search | Choose the correct date event |
Inside a Kane County Court Docket
Utah labels the online record a case history. "Docket" works fine as shorthand for that time-ordered list. It can show when a case opened, the parties and lawyers entered, the judge assigned, the events that took place, and how a charge or claim resolved. Keep one thing straight, though: a brief docket entry is not the filed document behind it.
| Case number | The court identifier, often beginning with a two-digit filing year; read it with the court location. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Names and role codes such as plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, or respondent, subject to access limits. |
| Proceedings | A chronological list of filings, hearings, rulings, and administrative events. |
| Hearing settings | Scheduled court activity, which may later be reset or continued. |
| Court and judge | The filing location and assigned judicial officer; reassignment may produce several judge entries. |
| Disposition | The recorded outcome of a charge, claim, judgment, or case. |
Documents sit on a separate list and may offer a purchase link. An entry can stay public even when its attached filing is private or unavailable. Check the classification on each item instead of lumping the whole case into one access category.
Kane County Case Codes
The Utah case-type list unlocks the short codes in a Kane County docket.

- FS
- State felony filed in District Court.
- MO
- Other misdemeanor case.
- SC
- Small claim heard in Justice Court.
- EV
- Eviction case in the civil docket.
- TN / TC
- Traffic citation or traffic court case.
Outcome codes deserve the same care. A dismissal is not an expungement, and a transfer does not erase the dispute. Verify any code that drives a real deadline with the court clerk.
Courts That Keep Dockets in Kane County
Court level decides where a record lives. Kane belongs to Utah's Sixth Judicial District. Its general-jurisdiction District Court takes felonies, class A misdemeanors, major civil matters, domestic cases, and probate, while justice courts handle lower-level offenses, traffic, local ordinances, and small claims. Juvenile records travel a separate and usually nonpublic route.
| Court | Docket covers | Search route |
|---|---|---|
| Sixth District Court, Kane County | Felony, class A misdemeanor, civil, domestic, probate, and property matters | XChange or District Court clerk |
| Kane County Justice Court | County, Kanab, and Alton low-level criminal, traffic, ordinance, and small claims | XChange or county Justice Court clerk |
| Orderville Municipal Justice Court | Orderville and Glendale municipal matters | XChange or Orderville clerk |
| Juvenile Court | Delinquency and child-welfare matters | Restricted juvenile process |
Big Water Municipal Justice Court dissolved at the end of 2022. Current matters now route to Kane County Justice Court. An older docket may still show the historical Big Water location.
Kane County Clerk Routing
The Utah court directory draws a line between court clerks and the Kane County Clerk/Auditor. That one distinction prevents a very common records mistake.

Send district criminal, civil, domestic, and probate files to the District Court clerk. Kane County Justice Court matters go to its own clerk. Orderville or Glendale cases go to the Orderville clerk. The County Clerk/Auditor keeps county administrative records and appears in some local payment directions. It does not hold court dockets as a main function.
Name the exact record and its case in any request. Give the case number if you have it. Add the party or caption, a rough date, and whether you want inspection, a plain copy, certification, or audio. For a restricted item, state your lawful basis for access. Prove it through the clerk's private process. Detail like that helps the office locate the file and estimate the charge.
How to Find Court Dates and Settings
A filing date is not a hearing date. XChange case history lists hearings. Utah court calendars cover two weeks of scheduled activity with daily updates. Kane County links to a legacy Kanab schedule PDF. That link does not reliably open a current table, so treat it as a lead to verify rather than a live calendar. Kane County Justice Court posts its weekly hearings for Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. Mountain Time, with a current Webex link on the county page. A general schedule never overrides case-specific instructions. For a room, remote link, reset, or required appearance, the clerk is still the best source. The full workflow sits under Kane County Court Dates.
Kane County Access Choices
Online search is just one route here. Kane's rural geography makes the alternatives matter. The Sixth District Court page posts local contact details and describes service across a large rural district.

A public terminal gives free XChange inspection. Most district courthouses have one, and some justice locations do too. Call ahead for a justice terminal. The State Law Library also runs free XChange computers. For copies, audio, certification, or nonpublic requests, send the Utah court-record form to the clerk. Mail, email, fax, pickup, and inspection depend on the record and the court's direction.
Public Access to Court Dockets
The Utah Code of Judicial Administration governs Utah court records first. Records stay presumptively open unless classified private, protected, sealed, or otherwise restricted.
Key Utah court-record rules:
Rule 4-202.02 classifies public and nonpublic court records.
Rule 4-202.03 sets public and restricted access rights.
Rule 4-202.04 requires a request that reasonably identifies the record.
Rule 4-202.08 states copy, staff-time, search, and recording fees.
GRAMA covers many government records, but court dockets answer to judiciary rules. A sheriff report, a county administrative file, and a case history therefore live with different custodians and follow different request paths.
Kane County Docket Fees
The official XChange fee page separates search access from document and copy costs.

| Service | Published charge | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| One-time XChange | $10 transaction | Up to 10 searches |
| Subscription | $25 setup, then $40 monthly | Up to 500 searches; $0.35 each after |
| Online document | $1 each | One available document |
| Paper copy | $0.25 per sheet | Clerk-produced paper copy |
| Email or fax | $5 through 10 pages | Then $0.50 per extra page |
The first 15 minutes of personnel time cost nothing. Staff rates can kick in after that. Mail, storage media, certification, and audio each carry separate charges, so ask for an estimate on a broad request.
Docket Records at the Clerk's Office
A clerk can tell you where a filing sits, how to request it, and whether copies are ones you may receive. Clerks also know whether an online entry matches the current schedule. They cannot open a sealed record, though, without legal authority.

Kanab, UT 84741
435-264-4790 or 435-264-4791
County-office hours may not match the court counter, so call first. That matters most for audio requests, payments, juvenile matters, and older paper dockets.
Kane County Restricted Dockets
XChange keeps certain dockets out of ordinary public results. Sealed cases are excluded. So are adoption, civil commitment, expunged matters, juvenile delinquency, child welfare, and termination of parental rights. Some domestic and probate categories are private or partly private too. Even so, pieces can stay public. Individual case-history entries, orders, or judgments remain open unless a rule or order restricts them.
Want a nonpublic record? Use the Request for Court Record process. Name the item, and state a valid basis for access. The clerk may want identity or authorization papers. The office may redact parts, deny access, or pass the request to a judge. A broad GRAMA request cannot override a judicial seal. Check the public status of the exact record rather than guessing from a case title.
Kane County Court Dockets by City
The five incorporated places do not each run their own court. Kanab and Alton send local justice matters to Kane County Justice Court. Orderville has a municipal justice court. It also serves Glendale. Big Water's municipal court closed in 2022. Its current justice matters now go through the county court. Population figures come from the official 2020 Census table.

Kane County Recovery Court Docket
Kane Recovery Court opened in 2013. It is an adult felony drug court tied to underlying Sixth District criminal cases.

The policy sets a process of about 12 to 18 months. It serves qualified high-risk, high-need participants. Eligibility calls rest with the program and the court, not the clerk. For public docket research, stay with the underlying criminal case; treatment, testing, and participant details may be confidential or restricted.
Kane County Docket Coverage
Digital coverage has limits. Utah reports most District Court records back to about the end of 1998. Justice Court coverage varies by location. District electronic public documents filed since July 1, 2010 generally appear in the online explanation. Those dates describe the system, not whether older Kane County records exist. Converted files can be partial, and older paper material may still sit with a clerk.
Is an old Kane County docket missing online? Give the clerk a party name and a filing year. Include the court level and a likely case type. Ask whether the file was converted, archived, or kept on paper. Big Water's municipal court closed, but its historical dispositions remain records. Search the historical location when the record points there. Then ask the successor Kane County Justice Court about current routing.
Kane County Federal Docket Boundary
Utah XChange holds no federal court dockets. Kane County sits inside the United States District Court for the District of Utah. Federal civil and criminal cases run through PACER and the federal CM/ECF system. Bankruptcy cases use the Utah Bankruptcy Court route. Appeals from that district go to the Tenth Circuit, not the Utah Court of Appeals.
PACER charges $0.10 per page and generally caps a document at $3. Searches carry no cap. Quarterly fees of $30 or less are waived. Written opinions and courthouse terminal access can be free. CourtListener and RECAP may supply some opinions or docket documents at no cost. Coverage is not complete. A Kane County name or event may therefore need two searches. Use XChange for state proceedings and PACER for federal ones.
Kane County readers should confirm each result with the court that maintains it.
